Managing your budgets in USD or BRL
Monthly budgets can now live in US dollars or Brazilian reais—the currency you use to think about that category. Here’s how to get the most out of it.
What changed
Each monthly budget has its own currency (USD or BRL). The numbers you enter—predicted amount, what’s left, how much you’ve used—are always in that budget’s currency. You can mix categories: e.g. rent in USD and groceries in BRL in the same month.
On the Monthly Budgets page, when multi-currency is enabled in settings, you can switch USD / BRL next to the month picker. That changes how totals and list amounts are shown so you can read everything in one currency. Individual budgets still “remember” whether they were created in dollars or reais.
Creating a budget
- 1.
Open Add Monthly Budget
From Budgets, use Add Monthly Budget (or the + on mobile).
- 2.
Choose currency first
Pick USD or BRL before you type the amount. The field will show $ or R$ so you know which unit you’re using.
- 3.
Enter the amount in that currency
If you chose BRL, type what you plan to spend in reais (e.g. 800.00). If USD, type dollars. The app stores the budget in that currency.
- 4.
Required categories
When you create missing budgets from Required budgets, they use your current display currency so new lines match how you’re viewing the app.
Editing a budget
Tap a budget card or Edit in table view. The editor opens as a side panel (drawer) so it’s easy to use on any screen.
Currency field
You can change the budget’s currency if you need to (e.g. you first set “Gas” in USD but prefer BRL). Update Predicted amount in the currency shown—then save. Remaining and used stay consistent with your linked budget expenses.
Cash flow schedules
When to spend (cash flow) still works the same: amounts you schedule follow your budget’s currency.
Bulk edit across months
Bulk Edit Monthly Budgets lets you set a currency and new predicted amount for a category across a range of months. Use it when you want many months at once to share the same denomination and limit.
Budget expenses (transactions)
When you log a budget expense and pick a budget, you can enter the purchase in USD or BRL on the transaction form. The app converts using an up-to-date exchange rate so your budget’s “used” and “remaining” stay accurate—whether the budget is in dollars or reais.
Tip
Budgets shown when you add a transaction match the month of the transaction and the currency you selected on the form, so the right lines appear in the dropdown.
Practical tips
Same month, two currencies
That’s normal. Your dashboard and budget list can show one total in the currency you toggle (USD or BRL) while each line stays true to how you created it.
Pick the currency you plan in
If you think “this month I have R$500 for eating out,” create that budget in BRL. If you think in dollars for subscriptions, use USD for those.
Editing vs display toggle
Changing USD/BRL on the month bar only affects how numbers are displayed in the list and totals. To change a budget’s real currency, edit that budget and set Currency + amount.
